A Smith Street Mall kitchen since 2011

Ruby has brought the flavours of Southern Vietnam to Smith Street Mall since 2011. The cooking is about balance: bright herbs and lime against the mellow heat of chilli, a little sweetness and smoke.

Lunch is quick and satisfying, built for people working in the CBD and visitors on the move: a bowl of pho, vermicelli with grilled pork, fried rice or noodles. In the evening the full menu comes out, with dishes made for the middle of the table. Soft shell crab, clay pots, shaking beef, whole fish and curries, shared between friends.

Southern Vietnamese dishes sit at the centre of the menu, alongside Cantonese and Thai favourites.

Ruby is licensed, so dinner comes with wine, cocktails, mocktails or a cold beer. Sit inside or out on the veranda. High chairs are ready for little ones, the venue is wheelchair accessible, and groups are always welcome.
